I just want to start by stating that influential and well known people in history, and celebrities, are human beings too, and posses a spirit just as I and you do. So the procedure to communicate with them on demand, has no discrepancies against the procedure to converse with family members. Many people will visit a medium to enquire about a deceased loved one, with hope that they will be able to comfort their grief. The medium, can indeed, if the spirit is available and/or willing to communicate, initiate contact and act as a go between the client and deceased, hence the term, medium. So with that in mind, I decided to use my abilities to make contact with some well known people in history of interest to me.
This notion isn't a new one to me, as many years ago, a spirit claiming to be that of Marilyn Monroe, made contact while I was performing a session. Prior to this, I had not much interest in the star, and hadn't watched many of her films or any documentaries about her life. So I am 100 percent confident that there was nothing in my subconscious memory bank about her profile for me to bring to the surface. The supposed spirit of Monroe remained with me for around 30 minutes, and she said that she was happy, which was no surprise to me, as 99.9 percent of spiritual entities are implicitly happy. Before she departed the session, she said she had one last thing to tell me. In life, she claimed that she was in fact murdered by a man with the initials,
"P L". PL was known to her, and had taken her life for reasons unknown. As she grew in confidence with me, Monroe revealed PL's full as, Peter Lawford. The name meant nothing to me, I had never heard of a such a man, and I was only around 14 years old at the time.

To my absolute amazement, it turned that out a Peter Lawford did in fact exist. He was an actor, and the brother-in-law to the then president of the USA, John F. Kennedy. And as you may know, Kennedy has been linked to Monroe's supposed assassination for decades, without evidence. So think of that what you will. After that experience, I now believe I was speaking to Monroe, but we will never know...
Joseph Merrick
So, I have decided that I would like to try again with "interviewing" a deceased person from history, but this time, someone of great interest to me. I have always been fascinated by the lovely and alluring gentleman that was Joseph Merrick. I would even say he is one of my heroes, despite being dead for 125 years. And, I am not convinced that this is my first contact with Mr Merrick. As a child, the 1980 David Lynch film, The Elephant Man, scared the living hell out of me. I grew up watching films such as, Hellraiser, A Nightmare On Elmstreet, Aliens and the 1980's reworking of The Fly, to much amusement and awe for the special effects. But The Elephant Man had the ability to paralyze me with fear, so much so, that I couldn't sleep with the light off, for several nights after my first viewing of the film.

But The Elephant Man had the ability to paralyze me with fear, so much so, that I couldn't sleep with the light off, for several nights after my first viewing of the film.
One evening, after being put to bed as usual, and my mum turning out the light, I began to relive the image of the Elephant Man again, the sack and large hat he wore to conceal his appearance haunted me, probably much more than his actual face did. The way he ran with a lame hip and disfigured spine. It all got too much and I hid under the covers, to then the feeling of something stroking me above the duvet. Now, this was enough to just kill me of fear there and then, but suddenly a calming feel came over me and a faint voice said something like "don't be frightened of me, I wont hurt you", and with that I feel instantly asleep as though I had been anesthetized. Of course, from that night onward, I never feared the Elephant Man again!
Did Joseph Merrick comfort a frightened child? Did his essence sense my fear of him, prompting him to come and investigate? After all, it is believed that, when we simply think of a deceased loved one, it sends a subconscious, notification as it were, to them, which in turn brings them into our presence, a bit like a psychic phone call. This is why, often we hear stories of someone, who was sat thinking of their deceased parent or partner etc. And then feel their presence or a physical touch. So, it is quite possible, being a psychic child also, that I sent a subconscious phone call out to Joseph Merrick, whom was probably rather amused to find a little boy shaking under the duvet!
Before I proceed with the "interview" portion of this article, I want to cover a few details about Joseph Merrick's life. The following is a brief history based on fact and literature, and not part of my spiritually investigation.
Those who have watched the film, The Elephant Man, will be surprised to learn that it was completely dramatized and a corrupt tale of the true facts. The film tells the story of a disfigured man whom is used and abused by a novelties and curiosities expeditionist, Mr Bytes. Bytes proudly presents his most outstanding and disgusting curiosity of all, The Elephant Man - half man, half elephant. A doctor, by the name of Frederick Treeves, heard the screams of disturbed onlookers and proposes that Bytes give him a private viewing. So distraught by what he is seeing, he invites the Elephant Man to the London Hospital for a physical examination. Bytes appears to be reluctant, but let's his creature attend nonetheless. The film goes on to portray the Elephant Man --whom turns out to actually be of above average intelligence and called Joseph Merrick -- as a constant victim of bullying and persecution, with Bytes waiting to remove his former curiosity from the hospital and back into his care, so he can profit from the Elephant Man attraction once more.
Of course, Mr Bytes never existed, and was introduced into the film to play the villain which we come to expect from the movie dynamic. He in truth, is a cruel and damning portrayal of Tom Norman, whom in life, cared for Merrick greatly. It was in fact Joseph himself, whom, in an attempt to garner some money to buy a home, asked Norman to help promote the Elephant Man act. It is obvious that Lynch felt that, had he used the character of Norman in his film, that it would not be compelling enough to pull at the heart strings and make us feel the empathy for Merrick needed, to create a story of courage and bravery.
Merrick was indeed a brave and courageous man, but was far more accepted into society than we are lead to believe by such films as The Elephant Man. He would of course have been brutally victimised and felt incredibly isolated. He left home at the age of 17, after his father severely beat him, due to his failure to find employment. We know that Merrick called various Victorian work houses home, before finally settling into his own quartets at the London Hospital. It was in these work houses he gained friends and supporters, but the conditions were dire, so he spent most of his day times searching the streets for work, to moderate success, until his condition worsened, preventing him from performing certain actions. As his physical appearance became more distorted, Merrick attracted much negative attention. He was excluded from entering certain places and from using some services.
Merrick had dreams of a home of his own. He was a man of a certain eccentricity, and was interested in the arts and nature. He concluded that the only way to garner funds for his ideal lifestyle, was to use what he was given at birth, and become a curiosity.
Freak shows were an important part of Victorian entertainment. The oddities whom starred in these shows were proud and hard working. There is a stigma, that side show oddities were forced into a life of exploitation and paraded in front of curious onlookers at a price, with the proceeds being pocketed by some cruel and selfish management. However, in reality, most freaks enjoyed the limelight, were proud of their much rehearsed routines and developed fan bases, signing autographs to impressed admirers. Had such shows not existed, many people with disabilities, would have had very limited options to make a living. Like any industry, there was a darker side which the acts feared would bestow onto them, but for Joseph Merrick, the Elephant Man was a success. And while many found his grotesque appearance to be unbearable, many more flocked to purchase a copy of his autobiography pamphlet, the proceeds of which he saved.
Not far from the shop where Merrick and Norman staged The Elephant Man, stood London Hospital -- now known as the Royal London Hospital -- which employed a Dr Frederick Treeves, whom upon hearing of the half man - half elephant oddity, arranged a private viewing to satisfy his own curiosity. The Dr was horrified by the grotesque physical abnormalities of the Elephant Man, and as he recalled some years later, in his book, hours after his private showing, he invited Merrick to the hospital for examination, to which he willfully accepted.
Early into the examination, due to his shy and timid nature, and impaired ability to communicate, medical professionals, Including Treeves, assumed Merrick an imbecile, to which they soon discovered not to be the case, and unearthed an intelligent, somewhat eccentric and highly refined gentleman.
As Merrick's condition deteriorated he became in need of round the clock care, eventually finding himself a home at the London Hospital. His quality of life improved, and so did his health, however, the hospital was not accustomed to holding incurable patients and deemed it best to move him to facilities better suited to caring for chronic patients. The hospital began to raise awareness of Merrick's predicament, garnering much attention from London's high society, including a visit from Princess Alexandra. It didn't take long before generous donations were put forward, and it was decided that the London Hospital would be Joseph Merrick's permanent residence.
Merrick's death has not been overly debated. Most agree that, he accidentally dislocated his neck while trying to lay down, something he wished he could do, "like other people", and it was ruled that the cause of death was Asphyxia. Merrick could only sleep with his head supported, usually with his legs drawn upwards while resting his head on his knees, although his sleeping conditions vastly improved during his time at the London Hospital. We will never known for sure if a desolate Merrick committed suicide or died in an experiment gone awry, in an attempt to feel the pleasures of a normal nights sleep, or less frequently speculated, the possibility of murder.
Before you proceed to read the interview, I just want to lay a few things down on how I work and what to expect from my text. Before I begin a session, I enter it open minded and expect nothing. I don't know what will come to me, if anything.
To attain an interview with the spirit -- well known or otherwise -- I begin by preparing what kind of questions I am going to ask. Once I have an idea of what I would like to discover, I proceed to reaching a very relaxed state. Once I am happy that I am open to receiving information, I invite the entity into my space. Depending on what feels right at the time, I may visualize a room, or bus stop, and ask the spirit to come to my destination. The answers I receive will be presented in the form of mental dialogue, visualizations, hunches and feelings and sounds. The spirit may only choose to communicate with one of the said methods, or use all of them. It may be as plain as day, having a conversation with someone face to face, but in my mind. There may be whispers in my ear, and of course anything that I do receive may make no sense to me and I may have to discard the information.
When the session is over, I shall piece together everything I have mentally collected and construct the interview into written text. I hope you enjoy :)
Interview With The Dead I: Joseph Carey Merrick
The following is from my own personal experience and mediumship. I do discourage anyone from taking the information as definitive. I always like to keep an open mind, and if information proves to be false, then I am happy to admit I may have interpreted the messaged incorrectly, or may have been purposely given the wrong information, for whatever reason.
Thank you for joining me. How are you feeling? And are you happy to answer some questions for me?
Good day, Anthony! I am very happy to answer your questions and it is my utmost pleasure to speak with you. The weather is lovely outside, so I appreciate you staying indoors to speak with me.
As I speak with you, I am seeing you as a "normal" looking man, then you change to the image we all know? Do you change between the too?
My soul is pure and has no deformity or corruption, therefore i am able to be what i never was. the image you may see of my disfigured form is your mental illusion, i am happy to be seen either way.
(Joseph has brought with him a black shiny box, he shows me it)
Thank you for sharing this with me, could you tell me more or show me the contents?
This is a trinket of my memories on earth. here is a photo of Mr Treeves and my mother. I can't recall actually seeing this photo of my mother, in life, she looks beautiful.
Can I just ask if you prefer to be called Joseph or John?
I like John. I has become my name, however most of my years alive blessed me with the name, Joseph.
Can I ask, what was your life like? Your day to day routine?
My life was not a cursed one, but blessed. I was special as we all are, but my life was somewhat impaired and made more challenging. I did enjoy what I had. Most days were spent holding onto my dignity, trying to find employment so I could live with everyone else in society. Money, even then was a ticket to better standards for anyone. Had things been different for me, I imagine that I would have followed my father's footsteps and married and had children, but somewhat blessed I was to be fortunate to have a different life of performance and grandeur. It was great fun and sometimes the attention I received, especially during my shows, was not a negative experience at all, but when the sun went down and the streets became dark, and the only companion was my mass of hideous flesh and growths, I felt withdrawn and isolated. Everyone was incredibly kind to me at the hospital I made residence. I came to expect many visitors, some rude and uninvited onlookers and some very special guests. It was certainly never a dull day.
I want to ask if you are aware of your death and how it came to be? There is an agreement that it was accidental, and the result of you experimenting with the notion of laying like others? What really happened?
I didn't practice sleeping like normal people, I knew I could not do this. I got out of my bed around nine thirty I think, and it was warm. I felt very warm and my joints did ache quite chronic that day, although that was not something new. In my frustration, I tried to get more comfortable, on my bed but not in it, the pillows were pressing on my back making me feel irritated, so I moved them. And it is rather unclear after that, for me personally. I felt tired and I must have fallen back in my slumber and couldn't get back my composure.
So it was purely an accident, and you didn't want to end your life?
Of course not. I was incredibly blessed and enjoyed what god had given me. I was a happy person, I will forever be a happy person. It is very sad when somebody wants to end their life, there is always another way and a light of love around everyone, that we can tap into.
Conclusion
The session had to end abruptly due to the physical discomfort I was beginning to experiencing, due to being sat for a while in the same position. I thanked Joseph for taking part and he remained seated in my mental room I created, he seemed somewhat melancholic when I finished, he may have wanted to say more.
The black box shown could quite possibly have been Joseph's grooming kit. The story her presented to me, regarding his death is very plausible. Until after doing this interview, I always assumed Joseph went to bed at the night time and was found the morning after in bed. However, research today has taught me that he was discovered in the afternoon, laid across his bed. So, my findings during the mediumship session could solve the enigma surrounding events leading to Josephdislocating his neck.
